Today was the first day of the Forbes under 30 summit in Detroit and what a day! We had quite a few experiences that were new and exciting.
Check in! We got our badges the night before at one of the hotel locations, which was definitely the best thing we could have done. The lines the next day were about 20 to 30 minutes with lines out the door and outside.
Day of we entered through separate doors for registered attendees which took about 5 minutes to get through the line and inside.
The first day has sponsored experiences that start right away…
There was a Forbes photo booth to take iconic cover photos/headshots.
A social media vending machine that gave you mini notebooks, candles and popsockets for a social media post about what you are most excited about.
A Cadillac driving demo where you can drive the car with autonomous driving engaged.
A Samsung experience where we got to play around with Galaxy Tab 6 in a very creative way.
A tasty tequilla testing.
And headshots with a full hair and makeup team!
There was a specific set of programming for the scholars in the ballroom. This was almost pre-career level. And it was clear that Forbes didn’t just expect a few scholars to show up and simply check it out, but to be active participants in the entire summit.
My favorite talk was on Business Wellness where an all woman panel talked about the problems that stymie first time founders.
They were asked what would they have told themselves when they were younger:
“Build the things you want to build”
“Break up with your current boyfriend”
All in all this first day has been a blast and already different from most conference experience I have had in the past. I likened it to being in a museum. And I look forward to the next two days of conversation!
